  • You might call this piece Neue Baroque – i.e. its a mashup between myself and Dutch Painter Ambrosius Bosschaert, whose painting 'Vase of Flowers in a Window' (1618) is in the public domain. The Majick Moonglass that you view his piece through is entirely of my own fabrication and represents the mental, digital and physical lenses that we view our world through. It’s a celebration of the tackiness and irreverence of digital art in the face of true masterwork! Hurrah!

His original painting is on view at The Mauritshuis Centre of The Hague, Netherlands. (view digital museum version).

  • About the underpainting:

"This painting of a colourful bouquet of thirty types of flowers is a masterly work by Ambrosius Bosschaert. He depicted the flowers meticulously, so that each one is easily recognisable.

This painting provides an overview of the most beautiful flowers known to Bosschaert, including the tulip, which was still a rarity in Holland at the time.Bosschaert based his bouquet on separate sketches he had made throughout the year. This allowed him to compose a bouquet of flowers that in real life do not bloom at the same time."
